The land of lunar landscapes, fairy chimneys, underground cave dwellings making a unique and unforgettable experience.

No matter how much you  hear about this area, nothing can prepare you for viewing it first hand. This area was subject to more than 30 million years of volcanic activity and the lava and ash were thrown far and wide resulting in slow accumulation of volcanic ash being transformed into tufa or soft rock. As storms and winds eroded the plateau that had formed, the fairy chimneys of “peri bacalar” were formed. Impact of man has left its mark too, thousands of years back; the Hitites were probably the first to dig their caves and tunnels into this landscape forming entire cities which then provided shelter and safety for the first Christian immigrants into the area.
The Cappodocia region offers an amazing amount of history and churches and their beautiful frescos can be seen today-there are 400 alone in the Goreme valley. One of the most visited sights is the underground Troglodye dwellings of Kaymakli, one of just 36 underground cities.
History aside, the mineral laden soil makes the soil very fertile and there are many fruit orchards and vineyards and we suggest that you sample the fine wines of this area.
There is so much to do and experience in this area that it cannot be marked down as a day visit, we recommend that 4 to 5 days be spent exploring the area to appreciate its complexity and hidden treasures.

Turkish airlines flies from Istanbul to Kayseri airport daily – flight time approx 1 ˝ hours.

Turkey and each area offers so much to do, and we suggest that you purchase books from our recommended reading guide found on the Turkey General Information page of this web site.
